Editor’s Letter

For a long time, before the inception of this magazine, I realized there was a duel of forces within me. My view of the world had been and continues to be influenced by what seems like a million factor’s within: Latino and American, speaking English and Spanish, born Millennial or Generation Z, raised on the east and west coast of the United States, and so on. I became obsessed with the idea of defining and pinpointing exactly where I stand on an imaginary polarized scale. I found myself on a journey in understanding what it means to grow up as a Latin-American, pouring into research and sentiments other’s have felt as well.

Within this “defining moment” so to speak, the first issue of Seguro was born. A (personal) triumph over the fighting factors within this identity, firstly focused on the West coast. This issue aims to create a sense of certainty of who we are as young Latino artists, asegurándonos de quiénes somos como Latinos: through fashion, art, and the celebrated culture we live.
